Directed by: Seiichiro Uchikawa From "Ame Agaru" the same novel that gave birth to After The Rain, comes one of the greatest samurai films of all time! During the 17th century, Ihei, a ronin, or unemployed samurai, rescues Tae from Lord Kotani, who wishes to make her his concubine. Pursued by the lord's henchmen, the couple take on menial jobs, desperate for money with which to pay their debts and bribe border guards to ensure safe passage. Ihei's income is so meager, however, that he challenges a local fencing master to a match and then blackmails the man after defeating him, despite the tradition that a samurai not use his skills for monetary gain. The local governor, made aware of Ihei's extraordinary skills during an authorized fencing tournament, offers him the post of master of martial arts, but he withdraws the offer when he learns that Ihei had participated for money in a common fencing contest. As Ihei and Tae continue on their journey, they are attacked by the lord's henchmen. Aided by Gunjuro Ohba, another ronin and formerly Ihei's tournament rival, Ihei subdues his opponents and proceeds in safety with Tae.
